Jewellery Care & Material
Our Material
Every Cinnabar piece is handcrafted using solid brass composed of 65% copper and 35% zinc. This composition is chosen for its durability, warmth, strength, and timeless finish.
Brass naturally carries depth and character, and over time it develops its own tonal variation through regular wear. Each piece is designed to retain the integrity of the material while allowing it to age naturally.
Our Design Approach
At Cinnabar, our current focus is on creating jewellery that feels sculptural, distinctive, and design-led.
We work with forms that are bold, architectural, and intentionally different from conventional fashion jewellery. Our priority is shape, structure, finish, and the overall visual language of each piece.
Because of this, we currently choose to work primarily with solid brass in its natural form rather than relying heavily on gold plating or surface-heavy finishing. This allows us to preserve the original tone, texture, and character of the material while staying true to the design itself.
As our processes evolve, we may explore additional finishes or protective coatings where they align with both durability and design standards.
Our Current Finish Approach
At present, we avoid heavy protective coatings on most of our pieces.
Protective coatings can chip, peel, or wear unevenly with regular use. In some cases, removing damaged coating may require heat-based restoration processes, which can affect the finish and detailing of the jewellery.
For this reason, our current preference is to keep the material as natural, maintainable, and true to form as possible.
This approach helps us focus on the structure and longevity of the design rather than temporary surface finishes.
Natural Oxidation & Colour Change
Brass naturally develops oxidation, deepening of tone, and tonal variation over time due to:
- Air exposure
- Humidity
- Perfume and skincare products
- Skin contact and body chemistry
- Storage conditions
- Regular wear
This is a normal characteristic of solid brass and not a manufacturing defect.
These subtle changes are part of how the material responds to use and environment, making each piece gradually more personal over time.
Cleaning with Pitambari
We provide Pitambari to help maintain the shine and finish of your jewellery.
To clean:
- Take a small amount of Pitambari
- Gently rub it onto the jewellery using a soft dry cloth
- Wipe clean and buff softly
This helps restore brightness while preserving the natural integrity of brass.
Please avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning methods.
Storage & Care Instructions
To help preserve your jewellery:
- Keep away from perfume, moisture, and direct chemicals
- Remove before bathing, swimming, or heavy physical activity
- Store in a dry place after use
- Keep pieces separately to avoid scratches
- Clean gently when needed using the provided Pitambari
Regular care helps maintain both the appearance and longevity of brass jewellery.
